Fire damages hotel restaurant and spa in Karon

A fire at a building operated by the Sugar Marina Hotel group in Karon was brought under control at about 7:45am on Monday, after starting roughly 45 minutes earlier. No injuries or fatalities were reported.
The building, next to the Beyond Kata Hotel, housed KIRI Restaurant on the ground floor, another restaurant on the second floor and Pinewood Massage Onsen Spa on the third floor. KIRI serves breakfast to guests staying at Sugar Marina Resort.
The Phuket News reported that firefighters from the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Unit at Karon Municipality attended with fire engines and water tankers. The blaze did not spread to neighbouring buildings.
The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage remain under investigation.
