UPDATE: Fire destroys hotel restaurant and spa building in Karon
A fire destroyed a three-storey building housing KIRI Restaurant and Pinewood Massage Onsen Spa in Karon on 3 August 2026; no injuries or fatalities were reported.
A fire at a three-storey building operated by the Sugar Marina Hotel group in Karon on Monday morning, 3 August 2026, destroyed the building, The Bangkok Post reported. The Phuket News reported that no injuries or fatalities were reported.
Reports differed on the timing. The Phuket News said the fire started at about 7am and was brought under control at about 7:45am, while The Bangkok Post reported that it began at 6:40am and was brought under control in about 20 minutes.
The building was next to the Beyond Kata Hotel. The Phuket News said KIRI Restaurant was on the ground floor, with another restaurant on the second floor and Pinewood Massage Onsen Spa on the third. The Bangkok Post reported instead that KIRI occupied the first and second floors, while the spa was on the third. KIRI serves breakfast to guests staying at Sugar Marina Resort.
According to The Phuket News, firefighters from the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Unit at Karon Municipality attended with fire engines and water tankers. The blaze did not spread to neighbouring buildings.
Police told The Bangkok Post that losses had not yet been fully assessed. The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
