Fire damages kitchen at Patong restaurant

A fire broke out at Al Yemen Saeed Restaurant in Soi Saensabai, Patong, at about 8:55pm, according to Patong Police.

Firefighters had extinguished the blaze before police arrived. Officers said the fire started in the restaurant’s third-floor kitchen and damaged property inside.

Restaurant employee Hasan Tooyeng told police he was working on the first floor when he smelled smoke from upstairs. He went to investigate, found the fire and alerted the authorities.

Police photographed the scene as part of the initial investigation. They said forensic officers would examine the site and investigators would review CCTV footage from the restaurant and surrounding area to help establish the cause. The investigation is being overseen by Pol Lt Col Wichet Suwanno, deputy superintendent for investigations at Patong Police Station. No injuries were reported in the police report.
