Two foreign men were caught on CCTV footage stealing a guitar from a parked motorcycle in Karon, Phuket at around 2:30am on April 23, according to the Thai owner seeking help online. The victim, 19-year-old Kasidit, reported the theft to Karon Police after discovering his guitar missing minutes after leaving it on his motorcycle along Thai Na Road.
CCTV Footage and Police Response
Security cameras captured the suspects walking near their motorcycle before one picked up the guitar and played it briefly. The other man waited on the motorcycle as his companion continued playing, then both left the scene with the stolen instrument.
Kasidit shared the footage with local news outlets and appealed for assistance in identifying the suspects. Police have not released updates on the men’s identities, and the guitar’s value was not disclosed.
Online Reaction and Related Incidents
The case sparked criticism from Thai social media users, with calls for stricter action against foreign offenders in Phuket. Some commenters urged the government to shorten the visa-free stay from 60 to 30 days and reconsider exemptions for certain nationalities.
Other thefts involving foreign nationals were reported last month, including a March 14 incident where two men stole two bottles of liquor from a Koh Phi Phi bar and a case in Koh Lanta where foreigners refueled a motorcycle and left without paying. Officials recently stated they are considering visa policy changes to focus on long-stay and higher-spending visitors.
