Foreign tourist arrested in Phuket after hotel disturbance over visa overstay

A foreign tourist was arrested in Phuket after police responding to a disturbance at a hotel found that he had overstayed his permitted stay in Thailand, according to The Phuket Express.

Authorities were called after a group of tourists allegedly played loud music in a hotel common area, disturbing other guests. Officers asked the group to show their passports, but the tourists could provide only digital images rather than the original documents.

Police checked the passport numbers against immigration records and found that one of the tourists had overstayed his permission to remain in Thailand.

He was charged with “being a foreign national residing in the Kingdom after permission had expired (Overstay)” and taken into custody. He was then transferred to investigators for legal proceedings under Thai law.

The Phuket Express said police did not disclose the man’s nationality or age.
