Police arrested an Indian national after an alleged assault near the end of Bangla Road in Phuket early on May 12, police said. The incident began at about 4:30 a.m. when Sandeep Kumar Sunil sat on the bonnet of a parked Toyota sedan and allegedly became aggressive after the 65-year-old owner, Saiwai Munngklap, told him to get off to avoid damaging the car.
Police said Sunil, who was reportedly intoxicated, pushed Saiwai after being warned to move. The confrontation drew attention in the area before officers took those involved to Patong Police Station for questioning.
Bystander injured as second man allegedly joined attack
Thanakorn Maneechai stepped in to try to stop the violence but was then allegedly attacked by Sunil and his friend, Mohammad Ajaz, police said.
The alleged victim was injured in the assault, which involved more than one person before police arrived at the scene. Witnesses saw the group altercation, according to the report.
Investigators later reviewed CCTV footage from the area as part of the case against the suspects. Police said the footage was being used to gather evidence for prosecution.
