Israeli ambassador seeks stronger protection for nationals travelling in Thailand, including Phuket
Dr Alona Fisher-Kamm urged closer coordination between Thai authorities and Israel after meetings with Surat Thani police and provincial officials.
Israel’s Ambassador to Thailand, Dr Alona Fisher-Kamm, has urged closer coordination to protect Israeli nationals travelling, living or doing business in Thailand, including visitors to Phuket, after official meetings in Surat Thani.
Fisher-Kamm concluded her visit to Surat Thani on August 17, 2026. She met Tourist Police Division 3 Commander Setthasak Yimcharoen and Surat Thani Provincial Police Commander Suwat Suksi to discuss visitor security, responsible tourism and stronger ties between Israeli travellers and local communities.
The discussions covered popular southern destinations including Koh Samui, Koh Pha Ngan and Koh Tao. Fisher-Kamm thanked local law-enforcement agencies for their assistance and open communication, and said close coordination was important because of the large number of Israeli visitors travelling to the province each year.
The talks followed a meeting on August 14, 2026, with Surat Thani Governor Jumpot Wannachatsiri and regional agency heads. Fisher-Kamm asked authorities to continue looking after Israeli nationals in the area. She said most Israeli visitors obey Thai law, while isolated incidents of misconduct occur among travellers of all nationalities.
The ambassador also warned that social-media accounts can amplify individual incidents and create misunderstandings or unnecessary insecurity. She said the Israeli embassy briefs travellers before departure on Thai laws, customs and cultural etiquette, and asked local authorities to contact the embassy directly when problems arise.
Fisher-Kamm highlighted five Israeli development initiatives in Thailand, including a high-value agricultural project on Koh Samui. She also invited Jumpot to an official conference in Israel in November.
Jumpot said Surat Thani applies the law transparently and treats visitors equally regardless of nationality. He expressed interest in Israel’s agricultural expertise and confirmed that provincial authorities were ready to work with the embassy on trade, travel and security.
