Jet-ski riders prompt near-misses with tourist boat off Phuket
Jet skis repeatedly crossed a passenger boat’s path off Phuket’s east coast, prompting crew warnings and concern over a possible collision.
Jet-ski riders repeatedly manoeuvred close to a passenger boat travelling from Ao Por Pier in Pa Klok to Koh Naka Yai off Phuket’s east coast, according to a video shared on social media.
The post accompanying the video said the incident occurred at about 11am as the boat was heading to the island. The jet skis approached at speed, changed direction and repeatedly cut across the boat’s path, resulting in several near-collisions.
The footage shows crew members shouting at the riders to keep their distance and exercise caution. The jet skis continued to operate close to the boat, creating waves and spray that entered the larger vessel.
The incident reportedly left passengers and crew concerned that a collision could occur. Commenters said a crash between a jet ski and a larger vessel could cause serious injury or loss of life, particularly when boats are travelling at speed in close quarters.
