An 18-month-old Myanmar boy identified by police as Wanchai was found dead in a canal in Chalong on 25 October after going missing from his family’s room at a workers’ camp during heavy rain.
The boy was reported missing at about 1.38pm near Khlong Bang Lang Son, close to the camp off Soi Sa-nguan Nam. His mother told police she had been resting with him and discovered he was missing when she woke at about 1pm. After an initial search failed to find him, she suspected he had fallen into the canal beside the accommodation as rain continued and water levels rose.
Police and rescue workers searched the area. At about 2pm, the boy was found caught in bamboo in Khlong Bang Lang Son, behind the Tak Daet housing estate in Moo 4, Chalong. He was recovered from the water and confirmed dead.
Chalong police arranged a forensic examination and sent the body to Vachira Phuket Hospital for further procedures. Officers also conducted preliminary interviews with witnesses and said they would gather further evidence.
