Phuket hosted a Southern Women’s Gathering on 24 October 2026, bringing together representatives from 16 women’s organisations and awarding 68 scholarships to children and young people from vulnerable groups.

The event was held at the Grand Ballroom of the Novotel Phuket City Phokeethra Hotel as part of the National Council of Women of Thailand under the Royal Patronage of Her Majesty the Queen’s “San Rak San Samphan Sanjorn” outreach programme.

Phuket Vice Governor Suwit Phansangiam presided over the opening ceremony on behalf of Governor Chotinarin Koetsom. Dr Laliwan Kanjanajari, president of the National Council of Women of Thailand, also attended with council executives, regional representatives and members of women’s organisations.

The scholarships were awarded to students at primary, lower secondary and upper secondary levels. The programme also included a panel discussion on “The Role of Women in Public Service for Society”, along with fashion showcases, local cultural presentations and meetings aimed at strengthening cooperation between women’s networks and government agencies.

Natkanya Saengpho, vice-president of the National Council of Women of Thailand and chair of Region 14, said the outreach programme was intended to strengthen member organisations, build closer relationships and support sustainable social development.

She said women’s organisations in southern Thailand had worked together on vocational training and income-generation projects, care for children, young people and older people, disaster assistance, education and charitable activities.

The southern outreach programme ran from 23 to 25 October, with Phuket serving as the venue for the main gathering on 24 October.
