Moroccan and Saudi tourist injured in Patong café altercation

Two tourists were injured during an altercation at about 5.30am at Cafe Dubai Phuket, a rooftop lounge above the Sugar Club on Bangla Road in Patong, police said.

The injured men were identified as Mourad Abid, a Moroccan national, and Alqahtani Omar Mohammed A, a Saudi Arabian national. According to the police report, Mohammed was heavily intoxicated and Abid, who was nearby, attempted to ask him to leave. Mohammed allegedly kicked Abid in the leg before the pair went to the ground floor, where he allegedly insulted him. Abid then punched Mohammed in the face, causing an injury, police said.

Café staff called Patong Police, who took both men to Patong Police Station. They were later sent to Patong Hospital for medical examination and treatment.

Police said they will review CCTV footage and collect other evidence before proceeding under the relevant legal procedures. The investigation is being handled by Pol Lt Sakwanat Damchaom, deputy inspector for investigations at Patong Police Station, under the supervision of the station’s investigation unit.
