Myanmar Worker Arrested in Phuket Murder Case After 10-Day Manhunt
A Myanmar worker accused of fatally stabbing a fellow worker in Phuket was arrested in Phatthalung after more than 10 days on the run, police said.
Police in Phuket have arrested a Myanmar national accused of fatally stabbing a fellow worker after a dispute police said was driven by jealousy.
Chalong Police said the suspect, identified as Mr. Aung Tu (alias), was arrested in Phatthalung on June 10, 2026, after evading authorities for more than 10 days. He has since been transferred back to Chalong Police Station for formal charges.
The case began on May 30, when Ms. Win (alias), the mother of the victim Mr. Kawe (alias), filed a complaint with Chalong Police Station, according to police statements reported by the Phuket Express. She said her son had been attacked with a knife by Aung Tu and later died from his injuries at Vachira Phuket Hospital.
According to her account, Kawe returned home on the night of May 29 at about 10:30 p.m. with severe stab wounds and identified Aung Tu as the attacker before collapsing. He was first taken to Chalong Hospital and then transferred to Vachira Phuket, where he later died.
Investigators initially had difficulty identifying the exact crime scene and finding witnesses. Police said inquiries at a workers' camp in Rawai showed that the suspect fled the area immediately after the incident.
A coordinated search later tracked him to Phatthalung, where officers arrested him. During questioning, police said Aung Tu confessed to the stabbing and told investigators he acted out of jealousy because he believed Kawe had been communicating romantically with his girlfriend.
Authorities said legal proceedings are underway and that the suspect will face prosecution for murder under Thai law. Police also arranged a crime re-enactment as part of the case file.
