Phuket officials are considering a partnership with Hyundai to accelerate the island’s “smart mobility” initiative, according to a statement released on 17 April 2026. The proposed collaboration would introduce advanced transportation solutions to Phuket, aiming to improve traffic flow and reduce emissions as part of the province’s long-term sustainability plan.

Proposed Technology and Scope

The partnership would focus on deploying Hyundai’s electric vehicle (EV) fleets and integrating autonomous shuttle services in key tourist zones. Officials said the plan includes installing new EV charging infrastructure at major transport hubs.

Hyundai’s smart mobility suite also features real-time traffic monitoring and digital payment systems for public transport. If approved, the rollout would begin with a pilot program targeting high-traffic routes between the airport and Patong.

Stakeholder Involvement and Next Steps

Phuket’s provincial government is leading discussions with Hyundai representatives, with input from the local tourism authority and public transport operators. The project remains in the planning stage pending a feasibility review.
