Phuket foundation awards B608,250 in scholarships to 238 students
A Phuket foundation awarded B608,250 in long-term scholarships to 238 students at a ceremony at Prince of Songkla University, Phuket Campus.
A foundation in Phuket awarded long-term scholarships worth a combined B608,250 to 238 students at a ceremony held on May 28 at Prince of Songkla University, Phuket Campus.
Phuket Vice Governor Suwit Phansengiam presided over the event. Also attending were Phan Thongchumnum, director of the Plida Attaphokthanakorn Foundation, the deputy mayor of the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation, and representatives from local government bodies, the Phuket Charity Foundation, the Phuket Red Cross, Ministry of Education agencies and private-sector partners.
According to the foundation, the scholarships for 2026 were provided to help ease the financial burden on vulnerable families. The recipients included 38 kindergarten students, 84 primary school students, 70 secondary school students, 30 vocational or academic students and 16 university students studying for bachelor’s degrees.
The foundation said it has continuously awarded scholarships since 2005 to help children gain educational opportunities and build better futures. Over the past 22 years, the total value of scholarships awarded has reached B16,249,518.
It also said it has worked for more than 28 years to support and protect vulnerable children in Phuket, with ongoing support from Prince of Songkla University Phuket Campus in all major projects.
The foundation’s work has received several national and international honours, including the Songkhla Nakarin Memorial Award in 2021, an NGO Award from the Rockefeller Foundation in 2013, the National Outstanding Social Activity Organisation Award in 2012 and the National Outstanding Organisation for Child and Youth Development Award in 2006.
During the ceremony, Suwit urged scholarship recipients to study hard, be good children to their parents and become responsible citizens. He also thanked all sectors supporting the project, saying it would help children grow into important contributors to the country in the future.
