Phuket pharmacist alleges spray attack in Patong
A Patong pharmacist said a foreign man sprayed him with an unidentified substance, causing palpitations, chest tightness and dizziness.
A pharmacist in Patong, Phuket, said he was sprayed with an unidentified substance by a foreign man while working at a drugstore, prompting a public warning to late-night businesses.
According to a report by The Phuket Express, the incident occurred at about 12:22 a.m. The pharmacist said the man, whom he described as appearing Middle Eastern, entered the shop and pretended to seek medicine. The man then took a perfume-like spray bottle from a cloth bag under a motorcycle seat and sprayed him continuously for about 20 seconds, leaving his clothes and body soaked.
The pharmacist reported a rapid heartbeat, chest tightness and dizziness. He said he forced the man out of the shop and called Patong Hospital for emergency assistance. Paramedics recorded his blood pressure at 160/100 mmHg and gave him intravenous fluids.
The pharmacist also said hospital staff told him that another pharmacist in Patong had recently experienced a similar incident. He shared his account online to warn other business owners, particularly those operating late at night.
Authorities have not confirmed what substance was used or whether it caused the reported symptoms. An investigation is ongoing, with chemical testing expected, according to the report. The pharmacist has urged local safety agencies to strengthen security in Patong’s nightlife district.
