Police in Phuket are searching for two foreign tourists caught on CCTV allegedly stealing a guitar from a parked scooter in Karon around 2:30 am on April 23. The owner, 19-year-old Kasidit Nommuang, reported the theft occurred while he was meeting a friend and away from his vehicle for less than five minutes.
CCTV Footage and Police Investigation
Security footage shows a man in a grey sando strumming the guitar before riding off on the back of a white scooter driven by another individual. Neither suspect wore a helmet as they left the scene with the stolen instrument.
Lieutenant Colonel Narutphon Kaewlae said authorities are reviewing video evidence and inspecting possible escape routes to identify the suspects. Officials are asking the public to provide information about the individuals seen in the footage.
Legal Penalties and Tourism Concerns
The legal penalty for theft at night from a parked vehicle in Thailand ranges from one to five years in prison. The case has renewed concerns about the impact of high international tourist volumes on crime in Phuket.
