Phuket security sweep seizes methamphetamine, weapons and motorbikes
Multi-agency operations in Thalang, Wichit and Karon screened hundreds of people and vehicles and led to drug arrests and seizures of weapons and modified motorbikes.
Police, district officials and security volunteers seized methamphetamine pills, knives and motorbikes in checkpoints and raids across Phuket over several days, The Phuket News reported.
The operations involved police, District Volunteer Defense Corps (OrSor) personnel and village security volunteers in Thalang, Wichit and Karon.
In Thalang, police set up a checkpoint on a secondary road near Bang Maruan Lake in Srisoonthorn on Sunday, 6 September 2026. Between 10pm and 11.30pm, officers inspected 38 vehicles — 12 cars and 26 motorbikes — and searched 49 people considered high-risk. They seized two motorbikes and two knives.
The checkpoint was led by Thalang Police Superintendent Pol Col Nikorn Chuthong and Deputy Superintendent Pol Lt Col Pachai Mathayant. On Saturday, 5 September, Thalang district officials and Tha Chatchai Police used mobile X-ray equipment to screen cars, buses and motorbikes. One suspect was arrested with 54 methamphetamine tablets, known locally as ya bah.
In a separate raid in Srisoonthorn on Friday, 4 September, the Thalang District Administration Special Operations Unit arrested a male suspect with 185 ya bah tablets under the Interior Ministry’s Operation 90 Days drug-reduction campaign. He faces charges of possessing a Category 1 narcotic with intent to sell, drug consumption and driving under the influence of drugs.
In Wichit, officials and police screened 65 people and 64 vehicles at a checkpoint on Phatthana Thongthin Road on Friday. They impounded 11 motorbikes with illegally modified and excessively loud exhaust systems and seized two short knives, an axe, a long sword and two e-cigarettes.
In Karon, police and administrative officers operated two checkpoints on Patak Road on Friday, at the Siam Commercial Bank Karon branch and the Luang Pho Chuan intersection. They screened 76 people and 68 vehicles, arrested two people for traffic and vehicle violations, warned five people and confiscated two knives.
Provincial authorities said similar multi-agency operations would continue across Phuket to maintain public order and improve safety for residents and tourists.
