Phuket to host Asia’s first InterPride world conference in 2026
Phuket is preparing to host the InterPride General Meeting and World Conference 2026, with up to 500 delegates expected from more than 70 countries.
Phuket is preparing to host the InterPride General Meeting and World Conference 2026, the first event of its kind in Asia, from 29 October to 1 November 2026. Pre-conference activities are scheduled for 28 October.
The event is expected to bring 400 to 500 LGBTQIAN+ representatives from more than 70 countries to discuss human rights, gender equality and community empowerment. More than 1,000 Thai volunteers are expected to welcome delegates.
Phuket began training government staff, hospitality workers and local businesses on 21 October. The programme focused on cultural competency, inclusive hospitality and international service standards, with sessions led by TransTalents Consulting Group and Dusit Thani College.
The training included simulated situations to help immigration officers, volunteers, hotel employees, retailers and event staff assist international visitors from diverse backgrounds. Government and private-sector representatives, business operators, students and personnel from several sectors attended.
Deputy Governor Romdon Hayiawae said Phuket’s selection reflected cooperation between government agencies, private businesses and civil society organisations. He said preparations for international events needed to cover not only venues and facilities but also the services provided by frontline staff.
Thailand also plans to formally present its bid to host WorldPride 2030 during the conference. Bangkok and Barcelona have reportedly emerged as contenders for the future event.
