Phuketarrests tourist for graffiti

A Portuguese tourist was arrested in Phuket on April 14 after allegedly spray painting graffiti on the wall of an Islamic graveyard in Ao Makham, Muang district. Wichit police detained the 42-year-old man, identified as Henrique, and seized 87 used spray cans, a paint container, and a roller at the scene.

Charges and Community Response

Henrique faces charges of damaging public property, police said. Local Islamic community leaders and residents expressed anger over the graffiti incident at the religious site.

A foreign woman was also questioned by authorities regarding possible involvement in the case. Police continue to investigate her connection to the incident.

Separate Incident Involving French Tourists

On April 12, Patong police detained seven French tourists for disruptive behavior during Songkran celebrations on Prachanukhro Road. Officers reported the group splashed water, blocked traffic, and disturbed others, refusing to comply with police orders to disperse.

The French nationals were fined and formally warned before being released, according to police statements.
