Similan Islands National Park generated more than 215 million baht during the 2026 tourism season before its annual closure, officials said. Park chief Sirivat Suebsai said the islands received more than 400,000 visitors from November to May, with over 90 percent of them international travelers, underscoring the park’s importance to Phuket and Phang Nga’s tourism economy.
The total exceeded 2025 revenue of 197 million baht even though overall visitor numbers slipped slightly. Sirivat said foreign arrivals rose, but global economic pressure and international conflicts contributed to a slowdown in March.
Surin and Similan parks close for five months
Phang Nga’s two marine national parks, Surin Islands National Park and Similan Islands National Park, closed to tourism and overnight stays for five months from May 15 to October 15, 2026.
Officials said the annual shutdown is intended to protect marine resources during the Andaman monsoon season while giving authorities time to carry out maintenance and prepare for the next high season.
Under the park’s long-standing conservation policy, Similan National Park observes its own closure period from May 16 to October 14. The protected area is managed under strict conservation measures that include daily visitor limits, safety protocols and ecosystem restoration projects.
Other attractions across Phang Nga Province remain open during the marine park closure period.
