Two killed and three injured in Phuket crash involving alleged drink-driver
A Myanmar national was detained after his pickup truck struck a motorcycle and three other motorcycles in Thalang, Phuket. Police recorded his blood alcohol level at 239 milligrams per cent.
Two people were killed and three others injured after a pickup truck collided with motorcycles in Thalang district, Phuket, on 25 July 2026. Police said the Myanmar driver was intoxicated, with a recorded blood alcohol level of 239 milligrams per cent.
Thalang police received a report of the crash at about 7.30pm on the road to Ton Sai Waterfall in Village 1, Thep Krasattri subdistrict. Officers found a black Suzuki pickup registered in Phuket and four damaged motorcycles.
Police identified the pickup driver as Aung Min Oo, 42, a Myanmar national. The motorcycles included a black Honda Click ridden by Thanawit Inkaew, 24; a blue Honda Scoopy ridden by a 60-year-old identified as Kanit; a Honda Wave ridden by a 36-year-old identified as Nirันดร์; and a red Honda Wave registered in Ranong ridden by a 45-year-old identified as Mariam.
According to the preliminary investigation, the pickup was travelling from Ton Sai Waterfall towards Thalang when it struck Thanawit's motorcycle. The driver then allegedly continued for about 100 metres before losing control and hitting three motorcycles parked outside a shop.
Police said Aung Min Oo appeared intoxicated and took him for an alcohol test. He was detained and initially charged while officers continued gathering evidence.
Thalang Hospital later reported at 9.40pm that Thanawit and Mariam had died from their injuries. Three other people were injured. Thalang police are continuing their investigation and legal proceedings against the pickup driver.
