Two killed in suspected drink-driving crash in Phuket’s Thalang district
A pickup truck driven by a 42-year-old Myanmar national allegedly struck several motorcycles in Thalang on 25 July. Two people died and three were injured; the vehicle’s Thai owner has given B100,000 to each bereaved family.
Two people were killed and three others injured when a pickup truck allegedly struck several motorcycles on a road leading to Ton Sai Waterfall in Phuket’s Thalang district on 25 July 2026.
Police identified the driver as Aung Min Oo, 42, a Myanmar national. Officers said he appeared intoxicated and recorded a blood alcohol level of 239 milligrams per cent. He was detained for legal proceedings.
Thalang Hospital later reported that two injured people, Thanawit Inkaew, 24, and Mariam Longnawa, 45, had died, bringing the confirmed death toll to two. Investigators at Thalang police station are gathering evidence for a case alleging drink-driving resulting in death.
The pickup was owned by a Thai employer and had third-party insurance, according to the report. The employer has provided B100,000 to each deceased victim’s family as initial assistance.
Thanawit’s body was taken to Thepkrasattri Temple, also known as Ban Don Temple, in Thalang for Buddhist funeral rites. Mariam’s family took her body to Khura Buri district in Phang Nga province for an Islamic funeral.
Thanawit’s mother, Jirawan Kongjaiman, 54, told reporters that her son had been a hard-working and responsible young man who supported the family after his father’s death. She urged people not to drive after drinking, saying families would bear the pain of such crashes for the rest of their lives.
Police said they would expedite the case and proceed in accordance with the law.
