Two tourists were detained after an alleged shirt theft and a violent confrontation at a market in Patong, Phuket, according to an Instagram post published on 5 August 2026.
The post said a shopkeeper pursued the tourists with a broom after they allegedly took a shirt from a market stall, refused to pay and tried to leave. A French resident and motorcycle taxi drivers reportedly intervened when the confrontation escalated.
Police officers arrived at the market and took both tourists into custody, the post said. It added that authorities were investigating both the alleged theft and the reported assault.
