Foreign woman detained after dangerous beach incident and naked outburst in Cherng Talay
A foreign woman was taken into custody after lifeguards rescued her from rough seas at Surin Beach and police responded to reports of naked and erratic behaviour in Cherng Talay.
A foreign woman was detained after lifeguards and police intervened in two incidents in Cherng Talay, including a dangerous episode at Surin Beach where she ran into rough seas despite red-flag warnings.
Video widely shared on social media showed the woman grabbing a red warning flag erected by lifeguards and entering the water in an area marked unsafe for swimming because of strong waves and rocky shoreline conditions.
Lifeguards immediately intervened after seeing her enter the sea. As they tried to bring her back to safety, she ran between the beach, rocks and the water, prompting a tense chase as lifeguards worked to prevent her from being swept away or injured.
After several attempts, lifeguards brought her safely back to shore and contacted police to help control the situation.
The beach incident followed reports that the same woman had caused chaos near Surin Beach on Tuesday night, June 9. Videos shared online showed her walking naked along Sri Soonthorn Road in Cherng Talay while shouting and behaving erratically.
According to witnesses, staff at a nearby massage shop and a foreign man tried to cover her with towels, but she repeatedly removed them and continued acting aggressively.
Residents alleged that she entered businesses, damaged vehicles, chased passersby and attempted to assault people, alarming local residents and tourists.
Officers from Cherng Talay Police Station were called and eventually brought the situation under control before taking the woman into custody.
Police have not confirmed the cause of her behaviour and said their investigation is continuing. Authorities are also considering what legal action may be taken.
Officials reminded visitors to obey beach safety warnings, particularly when red flags are displayed, as they indicate dangerous sea conditions and swimming is prohibited.
