A hawksbill turtle has been rescued after being found with one of its legs caught in a fishing net at Karon, Phuket, on 21 August 2026.

Lifeguards brought the injured turtle ashore and monitored its condition while waiting for assistance. They then contacted the Sireetarn Marine Endangered Animal Rescue Centre, which took the turtle for first aid and further treatment.

The incident highlights the danger that discarded fishing nets and other marine debris pose to sea turtles and other marine animals. Entanglement can cause serious injury or death if animals cannot free themselves.

Hawksbill turtles are protected and classified as critically endangered globally by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. They are recognisable by their sharp, hooked beaks and overlapping shell scales and are commonly associated with coral reef habitats.
