Man rescued after spending up to five hours adrift in Phang Nga Bay
A man from Koh Yao Yai was rescued after clinging to the lid of a plastic ice chest for four to five hours when his longtail boat sank in Phang Nga Bay.
A man from Koh Yao Yai was rescued after spending four to five hours adrift in Phang Nga Bay, clinging to the lid of a red plastic ice chest after his longtail boat sank.
The man, identified only as Pahoyob, had been travelling from Koh Yao Yai towards Hua Laem Lan. Several boats reportedly passed through the area without seeing him.
At about 5pm, a captain operating a Sawanu Travel boat spotted him near Hin Musang, also known as Shark Point, an underwater rock formation and diving site between Phuket and Koh Phi Phi, about 26 kilometres east of Phuket. The crew initially thought the object in the water was a flag before realising it was a person.
The crew pulled Pahoyob aboard, covered him with a cloth and transported him safely back to Koh Yao Yai. He thanked them for the rescue.
The incident attracted online attention after Facebook user Tao Satith shared photos and video. Commenters praised the captain and crew for spotting and assisting the man.
