Man surrenders after knife attack at Kathu condominium leaves Phuket resident critically injured

A 33-year-old man surrendered to Kathu Police after a knife attack at a condominium in Kathu left a 39-year-old Phuket resident critically injured, police said.

Kathu Police said officers were called to The Scene Condominium on May 26 after receiving an emergency call from the station’s radio center reporting a stabbing inside the complex. Police said the incident occurred at about 6:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.

Responding officers found Kriengkrai Kajkla suffering from two knife wounds to the temple. Rescue workers provided emergency assistance before taking him to Vachira Phuket Hospital for urgent treatment.

Police said doctors later confirmed the wounds had damaged critical nerves and that Kriengkrai remained under close medical supervision.

According to police, CCTV footage and witness statements showed that the victim had arrived at the condominium with his girlfriend, who owned a unit at the property. Investigators alleged that the woman later went to meet 33-year-old Sriwallop Phuengrang, from Phang Nga, at the elevator entrance and escorted him to the second floor.

Police said Sriwallop then encountered Kriengkrai waiting near a stairwell. During the confrontation, Sriwallop allegedly grabbed Kriengkrai by the shirt collar, drew a concealed pocket knife and struck him twice in the temple.

Despite his injuries, Kriengkrai reportedly ran to the condominium’s juristic office for help, where staff and other bystanders coordinated with emergency responders.

While investigators were searching for the suspect, Sriwallop later surrendered to Kathu Police. Police said CCTV evidence matched his appearance to the assailant, and he allegedly confessed during questioning. Police said the assault was believed to have been driven by jealousy.

Sriwallop was charged with causing grievous bodily harm and carrying a knife in a public place without reasonable cause. Authorities said he was remanded to Kathu Police Station for further legal proceedings.
