Phuket Jet Ski Crackdown Fines 23 Operators for Using Unlicensed Vessels

Thailand’s Deputy Transport Minister Sanphet Boonyamanee has ordered stricter regulation of jet ski operators in Phuket after authorities fined 23 people during the first day of an enforcement campaign.

The offenders were found using vessels before receiving the required licences. Officials imposed the maximum fine of 10,000 baht on each person under Section 9 of the Navigation in Thai Waters Act.

The operation took place on July 15, 2026, after Sanphet inspected government operations in Phuket and received complaints about jet ski services and law enforcement at tourist destinations. He instructed the Phuket Marine Office to organise operators and strengthen inspections and enforcement to improve safety and restore visitor confidence.

Adul Raluekmul, director of the Phuket Marine Office, assigned Thiraphong Phannak, a senior marine survey official, and other officers to conduct inspections and suppression operations on land and water in coordination with the water police.

Authorities said the 23 cases had been processed through fines. Sanphet said the operation was only the beginning of efforts to organise Phuket’s jet ski industry and raise service standards alongside stricter enforcement.

He said inspections would be intensified and expanded to other major tourist areas. The stated aims are to improve safety, reduce the risk of tourists being taken advantage of and strengthen international confidence in Thailand’s water-based tourism industry.
