Phuket officials review petition in dispute over five coastal homes in Mai Khao
Phuket authorities are reviewing a petition and new evidence in an ongoing dispute over five residential properties in Ban Kho En, Mai Khao, with a preliminary conclusion expected by the end of July.
Phuket provincial officials have received a petition from legal representatives of landowners involved in an ongoing dispute over five residential properties in Ban Kho En, Mai Khao, in Thalang.
Governor Chotnarin Kedsom and Deputy Governor Romdon Hayiawa accepted the petition from attorney Israres Busayarat, who is acting for mainland landowners. The petition asks the province to review a request submitted by the occupants of the five houses and to consider new evidence and legal arguments while protecting both public interest and private landowner rights.
The dispute is tied to an appeal filed by the house occupants with the Phuket Regional Marine Office under the Administrative Procedure Act of 1996. On June 30, a provincial working group agreed to accept new documents and testimony and assigned relevant agencies to verify the facts and assess them under applicable laws and regulations. The review is still underway.
Israres said the latest submission was intended to ensure that factual evidence, legal precedents and relevant rulings are fully examined. He said the move was a lawful exercise of rights aimed at protecting the interests of mainland landowners as well as the wider community.
Deputy Governor Romdon said the province would handle the matter with transparency and fairness and allow all parties to present information and evidence. He said the multi-agency working group is due to meet again this week to assess additional submissions, with a preliminary conclusion expected by the end of July.
Adul Raluekmul, director of the Phuket Regional Marine Office, said the case has followed due legal process. He said the five occupants exercised their right to appeal and submit additional evidence, which has now been forwarded to the provincial review committee. The committee will assess the credibility and weight of the new evidence alongside material submitted by all stakeholders before issuing a formal opinion in line with the law.
