Tiger Muay Thai urges Russians to respect Phuket culture and Thai law

Tiger Muay Thai posted two videos online on Saturday, May 16, urging Russians in Phuket to respect local culture, Thai law and polite behaviour. The posts came as officials intensified a wider crackdown on foreigners accused of violating rules on the island.

One video is spoken in Russian with Thai and English subtitles. It says Thailand is home to millions of families who live, work, raise their children and respect their traditions, and that this “deserves respect.”

Videos warn against aggression, street fights and dangerous driving

The Russian-language message says the gym is seeing more aggression, conflicts with locals and dangerous driving. It adds that “real strength” is not aggression but control, discipline and respect.

It tells viewers to respect local laws, culture and the people around them. It also says anyone wanting to test their strength should do it in the gym, not on the street or in a bar.

A second video is spoken in English with Russian and Thai subtitles. Its speaker tells visitors they are guests in Thailand, should not “bring the problem,” should not fight on the street and should not drive as if rules do not matter.

Appeal follows broader enforcement campaign

The videos were posted after the Israeli Embassy in Thailand warned its citizens travelling in Phuket and elsewhere in the country following a renewed crackdown on foreigners breaking Thai law ordered by Phuket Governor Nirat Pongsitthaworn.

Officials said the campaign has focused on traffic offences, illegal employment and visa overstays. They described it as part of a broader effort to promote “high-quality and sustainable tourism” on the island.

According to officials, the governor earlier this month convened a meeting with security agencies, police, immigration officers and representatives of foreign embassies to discuss measures to control behaviour that causes disturbance or breaks Thai law.
